Founded in 1992, Oleana was created to bring coveted textile industry jobs back to Norway at a time when most European brands had moved production off shore. With the intent to prove that domestic production was still possible in a high cost country, the brand produce a womenswear collection of complex and patterned knitwear made from wool and silk, and other natural fibers. Beautiful repeat florals and stylized floral patterns, stripe and geometrics proliferate throughout the collection in a multi color sophisticated color palette. Simple silhouettes covered in riotous patterns are reminiscent of Kaffe Fassett, with a Nordic twist.

COCO_ECO_OLEANA_KNITWEARKnitted on ultra-modern hi-tech machines, Oleana focus on design, quality and flexibility, produced responsibly. Working with skilled hands, the brand identity is rooted between cutting edge industrial methods and fine craftsmanship, placing a great emphasis on the professional and social environment, and an understanding of the proud tradition of Nordic knitwear of which they are part. Each year the brand close the factory for a few days to take a study trip, whether at home or abroad, to learn and see what other textile people are working on.

COCO_ECO_OLEANA_PASTELDesigned by Solveig Hisdal, the brand has won a multitude of awards, including the Scheiblers Honorary Award from the Norwegian Design Council, and the coveted Jacob Prize, Norway‘s most prestigious award for design. Hisdal is regarded as one of the best textile designers in Norway, renowned for her colorful and well-developed sense of ornamentation and shape. With a background in graphic design, art and fashion design, the talented Creative Director also oversees the photography for the catalogue. Oleana‘s ambition is to make beautiful clothing of high quality that people love to wear, with respect and honor to their homeland’s heritage while honoring the environment.

Beulah London is a luxury British fashion brand based on heritage design and the empowerment of women. As a quintessentially British brand, the focus of the collection is effortlessly elegant special occasion, and day to evening wear. The chic collection is timeless, elegant and effortless in style, with simple clean lines and classic silhouettes, produced in premium materials and classic color stories.

Driven by a passion for positive social change, each Beulah garment helps to make a difference in by supporting women through the Beulah Trust, a charitable foundation with the goal of creating sustainable livelihoods for victims of trafficking. Every purchase helps to break the chains of poverty in some of the world’s most marginalized communities. Based on the concept of the ‘butterfly effect’, the brand help provide employment for trafficked and vulnerable women. Beulah work in partnership with fair-trade business Freeset, who offer employment to women trapped in Kolkata’s sex trade. The Trust give grants for skills training, giving women who have been victims of sex trafficking the opportunity to find work, generate an income, and live a self-sufficient life, free from abuse.

Founded in 2010 by Natasha Rufus Isaacs and Lavinia Brennan, Beulah London was born out of a desire to raise awareness of the plight of women trapped by human slavery. Tracing its origins back to 2009, the two women had a life transforming experience through working in an aftercare home in the Delhi slums. Having witnessed the harrowing effects of the sex trade, the pair felt the need to raise awareness of this important issue. The term ‘Beulah’ itself is symbolic of the brands philosophy, representing the journey of each woman out of darkness and despair, into a new life of hope and restoration.

Beulah has supported the United Nations, ‘Blue Heart Campaign’ since 2011. The campaign raises awareness of the issue and horror of human trafficking and raises funds for its survivors to help them start new lives away from the pain and abuse. Beulah donates 10% of profits from their blue heart Shibani scarves to the campaign. Through this partnership with the UN, and the Beulah Trust, they hope to inspire other brands to join the fight against human trafficking and championing a future where freedom is not a luxury, and have celebrity supporters in Jessica Alba, Pippa Middleton and Kim Murray who all stylishly wear their blue heart Shibani scarves to raise awareness and make a difference.

Mercedes-Benz are no strangers to pioneering the auto industry since 1886, when Carl Benz was awarded a German patent number for a three- wheeled, self-propelled “Motorwagen,” resulting in today’s global, luxury, automotive empire.

It true homage to its heritage, Mercedes-Benz once more leads the automative pack venturing further into the green car industry, merging pure opulence  with innovative engineering and technology, as futuristic luxury comes to life. Enter the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, named for its six meter length, a metric often associated with speedboats.

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 6.35.04 PMBoasting an engine that can achieve 750 horsepower; and an impressive 60 mph in less than four seconds, the jewel in the Vision’s crown is that it can charge 62 miles in five minutes with the average phone charger.

The extended, round ‘boat tail’ rear of the car is inspired by a luxury yacht, with interior features including a front windscreen as a transparent display, controllable by ‘gestures,’ and Mercedes-Benz’s traditional wood trim throughout.

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 6.40.59 PM‘This is a car you want to drive yourself,’ said Gorden Wagener, the Daimler AG head of design, said at the launch in California on Friday.

‘This is something you pass to your children, like a Leica camera or a chronograph watch. Driving has been a pleasure since 130 years and will stay that way another 130 years,’ Bloomberg quoted Mr Wagener as saying.

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 6.35.16 PMSustainability has long been a consideration for Mercedes-Benz and its parent company, Daimler. The 1991 S-Class was the world’s first CFC-free vehicle, in both its air conditioning and entire production process. Vehicle interiors have long used steam-expanded foam, sustainably forested wood, and natural products from coconut, flax, hemp and olives, while water-borne paint and coded plastic parts for recycling have also been employed for decades. Half of the patents earned in 2010 were for green technologies, with Blue TEC rated #1 in CO2 emissions in Germany’s luxury class. Offering hybrid choices in some of its most popular models, and having released the B-Class Electric Drive in 2015, Mercedes-Benz ups the ante once more with this glamorous, luxurious coupé, as Maybach goes electric.

Slow Beauty For A Fast World.

By Eva Bloomfield, Vegan Editor

An innate penchant for health and organic beauty runs through Shel Pink’s maternal bloodline. A Leo, dark raw chocolate lover and meditation fiend, Shel honed her knowledge of healthy habits when growing up in the suburbs of Detroit. Her childhood was continuously guided by the mantra ‘health is wealth.’ Her mother, a health buff well before the words ‘clean living’ were in anyone’s lexicon, instilled in Shel an awareness of her environment, the habit of thoroughly scanning ingredient labels and a devotion to self-care.

Attachment-1The ideological seed of balancing aesthetics and wellness–from the practice of massage and reflexology to selecting the healthiest and safest beauty products–was planted. Deeply. Shel sharpened her intrinsic creative knack at the University of Michigan where she studied art history. While earning her degree, the pull toward a spiritual path grew when she discovered yoga, uniquely, at a class that catered to senior citizens. The roots of her practice deepened as she found meditation and Ayurveda, an ancient medical system of treatment which employs healing herbs.

SR_MoistureBalm_V2While spirituality and health remained crucial tenets of her everyday, Shel’s artistic calling led her to a brief stint in fashion before she was invited to join her father-in-law’s business, Orly, a major beauty brand in the world of nail lacquer. Around this time is when she discovered she was pregnant.

BodySerumFaced with impending motherhood, her recognition that the decisions we make today will impact future generations became undeniable. Her work provided her with a direct line to people and with a channel for informative dialogue. Inspiration struck–she could create a new beauty line that embodied her life philosophy. And, thus, two great creations were born out of her pregnancy.

COCO_ECO_SPARITUALA line of vegan nail lacquers, buttery lip glosses and aromatic body care products, SpaRitual emanates environmental sustainability and clean living. It was the first to introduce a vegan nail lacquer to the marketplace and removed potentially harmful ingredients from the beginning. But, beyond its eco-conscious composition, her line is a celebration of life. It elevates compassion for–the time we take and how we care for–the self and the joy of upservicing–the respect we have for and energy we give–to the outside world. Later, inspired by her son’s classroom pet tortoise (adorably and aptly named Torti), who was present and intentional, she developed the philosophy of Slow Beauty. Infused in all of her products, Slow Beauty is an invitation to cut through the daily frenzy and stay grounded through daily meditative practices. It defines the connection between beauty and well-being.

Screen Shot 2016-08-20 at 12.08.32 PMWhen asked to list her key essentials, Shel didn’t mention a neutral nail polish or body butter. Instead, she talked about the power of female friendships; the strength that can be found in gathering together to support one another and communally set intentions. Her response heightens the realization that SpaRitual transcends physical beauty; it represents a lifestyle that, born out of maternal instinct, embraces compassion, minimalism and self-care. It is meditative wellness in a bottle, an appreciation of the immediate. It is a family affair, a tradition of health passed from one generation to the next. SpaRitual welcomes us all to incorporate the traditions into our own lives–and pass it on.

By Sass Brown, NYC Editor

Zarif Designs, based in Kabul Afghanistan, employ and train 52 local Afghan men and women to practice handcrafted work and the art of slow production. All fabrics for the collection are sourced from Afghanistan and Central Asia, and feature traditional hand woven textiles and intricate hand embroidery. Zarif aims to preserve the traditional of Afghan handcraft by merging them with a modern aesthetic to produce a fashion collection that is distinctive and timeless.

COCO_ECO_ZARIF_SS_16Zarif jackets and coats combine the elegance of traditional textiles and clothing with contemporary Western style, to offer a collection featuring hand-embroidered mandalas, and distinctive borders. The brightly colored “chapan” materials create practical and magnificently finished jackets in a range of rich, unexpected stripes, and are helping to revive the tradition of Afghan craftsmanship. Zarif are also fostering fair-trade practices, and working with natural dyes. At its core Zarif acts as an ambassador sharing the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan and its people with the rest of the world, providing a platform where traditional high-quality craftsmanship is a source of economic opportunity and personal fulfillment.

COCO_ECO_ZARIF_DESIGNSInitially part of the Persian empire, Afghanistan has been subject to Soviet occupation, and civil war for decades. Originally part of the Silk Road, the country has a long and rich history and textile heritage. The Zarif collection aims to preserve this tradition by merging it with a modern aesthetic to create fashion that is distinctive as well as timeless. Jackets and coats are beautifully tailored, reminiscent of moghul styling and featuring richly embroidered mandarin collars, deep flared cuffs and intricate belts and bands. Sleeves and jacket backs sport suzanni style mandalas and Arabic scrolls, with others showcase the beauty and delicacy of calligraphy. A men’s line of jackets are sleek, tailored and militaristic in styling with narrow mandarin collars with metal buttons and bright scarlet piping, facings and lining. Dramatic and sleek, the capsule is the perfect compliment to the more extravagant embroidery on the women’s line.
