Saigon Socialite’s line of footwear: a project to preserve Hue’s Pagoda woodcraft techniques.

Design is a process in problem solving and a solution to shape a better society and future. Ancient crafts that once sustained livelihoods defined cultural identities and endured centuries of transformation are quickly, and quietly, losing the battle against the globalized economy. Fashion4Freedom pays homage to the longevity and resourceful collaboration that built these traditions by instilling modern ingenuity within ancient craftsmanship; with a vision of the deliberate and delicate revitalization of global cottage industries. As a novel touch of design preserves cultural identity, sustains communities and reinvigorates the modern day supply chain.  With the thoughtful processes that once built its foundation.

It tales 18-22 days to make the perfect dragons.

The concept to resurrect Vietnam’s lost craft of Imperial and Pagoda wood art is inspired by the fading number of hands that carve the spiritual soul of Vietnam. Just as wood is never completely motionless, expanding and  contracting with changes in humidity and temperature. Craftsman also must adapt to this movement by accepting its organic nature.  After 18 days nourished in the hands of craftsmen the birth of the dragon shoes is complete.  Fashion4Freedom takes liberty in translating the timeless beauty of ancient Vietnamese wood art through the lens of modern luxury.
